A Provençal paradise amid lavender, figs and olive trees
Welcome to Nouveau Roucas, a little paradise just 3km from Lourmarin, one of the lively and most glamorous villages in the Luberon. Lourmarin’s numerous boutiques and galleries, its 18 restaurants and its burgeoning and popular Friday market attest to its status as a prime tourist destination. Here you will have the best of both worlds; relax in the quiet and tranquility of the countryside but be just minutes away from the amenities of several of the most appealing villages in the Luberon.
The two beautifully restored farmsteads that make up Nouveau Roucas are set within a fragrant garden of typical Provençal flora – figs, lavender, olives and rosemary. The two houses can sleep a total of 12 people, making ideal for a large group or two families holidaying together. Set against the majestic Grand Luberon mountains, Nouveau Roucas is nestled between farmland, woodlands and vineyards.
House 1 (Mas du Bassin):
Although decorated in traditional style, clever use of light gives the property a contemporary feel. Modern indoor amenities include Sky satellite television, DVD player, and an iPod docking station. If needed, there is underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs.
The generously sized kitchen has been renovated with a high-quality waxed concrete finish, stainless steel units and a large central island for food preparation. All the mod-cons are there, including Liebherer fridge and wine chiller, Bosch dishwasher, a fitted espresso coffee maker and a juicer. Just off the kitchen are full laundry facilities as well as a separate toilet.
The spacious downstairs is anchored at one end by the fully equipped kitchen and, at the other end, by an elegant and perfectly appointed formal, library-style sitting room, with open fireplace, ample seating and even an immaculate Steinway baby grand piano. Double doors lead from this lounge area to a covered patio terrace, with a 12-seater table and chairs, perfect for an aperitif in the evening or for an al fresco lunch.
In the centre of the ground floor living area is an open fireplace, great for chilly evenings, surrounded by comfy armchairs and an overstuffed sofa, among other Provençal-style furnishings. The long dining table alongside is conducive to lazy lunches and relaxed evenings over a bottle of wine with family and friends. Two sets of double doors flow out onto the main terrace.
Upstairs, this lovely home has three large, light-filled double bedrooms, two with en-suite bathroom consisting of large shower, while the third has a charming bath with hand-held shower and separate toilet. One of the bedrooms has a balcony overlooking the surrounding fields and the patio below, complete with trellised grapevine.
House 2 (Mas des Rocailles):
Mas des Rocailles, was transformed from a 200-year-old sheepfold into a comfortable, three-double-bedroom villa. Designed to a very high standard, it has an elegant and relaxing atmosphere indoors, including a large open fireplace in the comfortable sitting room. Central heating is provided by radiators.
Up a spiral staircase in the centre of the building, this lovely home has three large, light-filled double bedrooms. There are two large bathrooms, one with a generous contemporary wetroom shower, basin and adjacent toilet. The second bathroom has a large bath, basin and separate shower, plus there’s a second separate toilet room with basin.
The property’s garden, with spacious terrace and a lovely relaxing pool area, make it a little hidden paradise. There are several outdoor seating areas where you can enjoy enchanting views of the Luberon Natural Regional Park, including a spacious covered terrace, a pool garden, small oak forest and bassin (swimming pool) it was designed to create an elegant and relaxing atmosphere.
There is a the inviting covered terrace that is perfect for afternoon barbecues, an expansive open terrace with sun loungers, a formal garden with picturesque lily pond – and numerous nooks and crannies where one can steal away to read a book or do a bit of inspired writing or drawing.
There’s a traditional rock garden (jardin de rocailles in French, hence the name) with a large fountain enveloped in lilies. The garden is well established and the heady aroma of lavender will surround you as you lounge in any of the charming, secluded spots in the garden.
There is ample space for children to play and explore without being out of sight of adult supervision, and the shared heated pool is a magnet for adults and children alike. There is also plenty of parking under shady trees.
The change-over day for this property is Saturday. Bookings will be taken for a week (7 nights) at a time. Submit your booking enquiry to receive a summary by email. We will get back to you as soon as possible to confirm your request.
To reserve the dates, we require a 50% deposit, with the balance to be paid at least 30 days prior to your check-in date. By paying the deposit, you are agreeing to our Terms and Conditions.
We also ask for a €500 security deposit, payable with the final balance payment (or in cash on arrival by prior arrangement), which will be returned to you within 7 days if the property is vacated in good order at check-out.
